Can anyone recommend a resource for training on machine repairs/maintenance in the NY/Long Island area?

There is a level 2 seminar at Wascomat June 3rd. It covers all Generations. You will need to call and reserve a seat if it's not full already.

level 2 sounds like an intermediate-type course. Is it? I need something for real beginners. Crawl before you walk-type stuff. Is there a charge to register?

There is a 50 dollar charge to reserve your spot, BUT, you get it back when you attend, so there is really no charge. It is an intermediate class, (Level 2) but I'm sure you'll get something out of it. If you want they have a level 1 class, but I don't think it's until Sept/Oct. Check their website for more details.

What make equipment do you have? Most distributors have seminars at least once a year to showcase new stuff, but thye also tear into a machine for service. These are free to attend, and you might get lunch. I learned much about machie repiar from this when I started. If you have no wascos it makes no sense to go to a wasco service school is the point. A good parts house will give you instruction and trouble shooting over the phone also, that was my secondary eduaction on machines..
Of course you have this board, full of people who have learned a trick or two servicing machines..

In Level II Seminar they also cover the basics. Main difference between Level I and Level II is they explain workings of Timers in very details in Level II seminar.
