Okay recently I raised my prices a quarter and took all of those lovely 8 coin slides apart. (Now there is a selling point for card systems!)

Now I have one machine that seems to hiccup every once an a while. I have had two customer acknowledge that they put the 5 quarters in the slide pushed it, the coins dropped but not sale. The machine didn't start.

The machines are mechanical starts. I was there during one of the episodes and tried it myself. For me of course, no problem.

A week later a regular asked what was wrong with the machine. He had lost $3.75 on it last week.

Ideas???

The problem in not with the coin slide, but rather with the part of the mechanism that moves the clutch on the top loader. I don't know what make of top you are using, but on Speed Queens there is an arm on the far end of the coin slide mechanism. This pushes past the clutch on the timer as the coin slide is pushed in. As the slide is pulled back, it moves the arm on the clutch of the timer and starts the machine. Sometimes the coin slide arm is not aligned exactly right with the arm on the clutch. Another possible problem is that the timer has slipped slightly to the rear of the machine. Check the hold-down bolts. The timer should be as far forward (toward the front of the machine) as possible.

Yep, Winston is right, the actuator bar is loose and is not aligned with the timer.

I have bought a package of split lock washers and put under all the screws to help prevent this.

I have run across a couple of slides that would not tighten all the way allowing the actuator bar to move around. I had to put a washer under the mounting bolt to stop this.

I had the same problem,. Winston mentioned it. For me it was the whole timer had mover forward just a hair, enough so the slide bar would miss the clutch every so often. Drove me crazy for ahwile..

Thanks for the help.

It appears that the problem was the screw and plastic piece on the end of the activator arm had come off.

Interesting part is the machine adjacent to the problem machine had the same condition but worked okay, so when I had looked at it for comparison, I didn't see any problem. When I looked at the other 20 machines only these two had lost the screw that held the plastic piece on.

If I understand the activator properly, the slide passes past the mechanical trip arm and when pulled back this plastic extension trips the mechanical arm and the machine starts.

Of additional note these are the two busiest machines in the wash. I wonder how many people had a problem and didn't say a word?

(We are attended) The machines are Whirlpools.

I would like to increase the top load washers to $1.25 The problem I am having is finding the .25 cent inserts. The coin slide is a super 8 coin slide, I am being told by a local sales person replacement parts are obsolete. And I would have to buy new coin slides. Is this true?? Or does anyone know where I might be able to locate the inserts.

Thanks

I had an old slide and was told the same thing.

I bought old used ones and took them apart for parts.

Bought them from Parts Distributors @ lombard, IL.
They sell used ones for $5 to $10

To increase prices, I have to REMOVE an insert to allow the extra quarter in the slide and prevent activation without the extra quarter. I never heard of ADDING an insert to increase prices...

ESD need to remove spacer then add quarter plate.
Greenwall need to remove the spacer only
Monarch use a little tool to remove the spacer.
ESD made 2,3 different model, some quarter plate is not longer avaliable.
I would buy a few new coin slide, use the old one for parts, new one only cost $25-30.
I like Greenwal,no loss screw like ESD.

The units I have you have to remove a nylon insert and replace it with a insert. It appears that they make several inserts. Inserts for nickles, dimes and quarters.

Thanks

I bought new Monarchs for a store when i wanted to go over $1 about 6 years ago. I had all kinds of problems with those slides. Stick with Vert 8 or ESD

I switched to Monarch over ESD at one store. I did have problems in the beginning, but I found that the coin chute was a little to high and wouldn't allow the slide to work properly. A quick pry with a pipe and things have been smooth for over a year.
